Ocean Troubles

Ever have trouble with a fence in your yard? You could be this guy in which the ocean has completely washed away the land under his fence and is quickly taking away his property. This is the last house on Old A1A from the northern end. A1A formerly went down this strip of land until 1962 when Hurricane Dora came through and washed parts of it away. The DOT then came around and decided to move A1A further from the ocean crossing a large island known as Rattlesnake Island. As you can see in this photo that was a smart move as the land is disappearing where A1A once ran. The ocean is currently washing through to the Matanzas River at high tide.

A1A

This is the north end of "the hood" where the Matanzas River comes round the front of the island.

A1A Pics

I did go up and down A1A several times today. I stopped and snapped a few photos to test on this here blog. This a group of homes in Summer Haven. These are from the 1920's era and were owned by the Mellon Bank family. They vacationed here in the winters before there were any roads traveling south to this area from St Augustine. The only way here was by boat. Enjoy!

Harley Dealership

I was wrapping up a few things today prior to the big trip most of which aren't that interesting, running errands, things like that. Went by the St Augustine Harley Davidson dealership today to get a part. Here is a photo. Very nice people there if you ever are looking for something to do. Lots of bikes and accessories. Pretty bikes.... pretty....
