More

I have more but somehow they are large size, too big to post. I have to get rolling, I will resize them tomorrow and post them once I get home.

Riverside Restaurant

My GPS which I cal Sheila because she speaks with an Australian accent, found us this riverside restaurant in one of the small towns yesterday afternoon. Here are a couple of pics.

Bigfoot

At this stop Alma spotted a Bigfoot up on a rock. Like most Bigfoot sightings it turned out to be only a young fellow taking photos.

More Pics

These are all from Monday our final day on the parkway and surrounding roads. Grandfather Mountain, the Linnville Viaduct and Blowing Rock. We packed quite a bit in yesterday but didn't come across a wifi spot until now. I'm making my way down through South Carolina and Georgia on the back roads trying to stay off of the interstate and see the country from the 2 lane roads. I hope you enjoyed the trip. We did. :-)

Blowing Rock

We had dinner tonight at a restaraunt in Blowing Rock called Canyons. It is located at the edge of a terrific overlook where the mountains and valley seem to go on forever. You can watch the sun set behind the mountain. They have a small outside deck you can see in the photos. We parked the bikes near the edge and set the parking brake.

Day 3

Our decision to come off the mountain tops was a good one. It was in the low 40s up there this morning. We came down 221 at Sparta and found some warmer weather down toward Wilksboro. We took a detour into Stone Mountain State Park, it is a rounded granite face similar to Stone Mountain in Georgia as you can see in one of the photos. The park is really nice with ample picnic'n and hiking opportunities. Several of these pictures were taken there.

We made our way across a scenic valley with nice curvy roads this afternoon then took 321 up to Blowing Rock NC. Haven't had an opportunity to take any photos here but we will tonight and tomorrow.

Day 2

Another good day of riding on the Blue Ridge. The morning temperature was 41 and though it may have warmed slightly as we headed North and at very high elevations, it seemed to drop steadily. By the time we reached Galax, VA we were all like human popsicles. After warming up a bit over dinner we have decided to wing our way South on mountain roads where it is warmer. Not sure exactly which roads we will be taking, we shall see what strikes our fancy at each turn.

Notice the one photo where Mike is sitting on the motorcycle. We were sitting in a the parking lot of a coffee shop who advertised free wifi uploading photos and articles before we left. Its a serious commitment this ride report stuff. :-)

Day 1

We are in Boone, NC tonight. Tomorrow we are heading on up the parkway into Virginia.

The pictures speak for themselves. The Blue Ridge Parkway is spectacular! The land and roadway are part of the National Park system so most of the time there are no unsightly man made structures. Old growth trees form a canopy over the road and the leaves are turning and beautiful.

Cabin

Life isn't easy out here on the road. Living out of a duffle bag or other luggage, finding a place to lay your head is tough. Fortunately one of us men was able to charm the young lady at the local hotel where we had reservations into giving us this cabin for the same price as two regular rooms. Yep, its rough out here on the road. :-)
